Board Meeting Part A on 23 June 2008 in Crete

General Introduction

Main targets of CIGR:

To act as an umbrella for all national committees
To set an International Calendar for conferences/workshops 

 

  1. Updates of CIGR Section II official delegates
    1. The minutes of the meeting will be sent to all participants. Please don’t hesitate to let the secretary know if you have any remarks
    2. Suggestions for new delegates are welcome if there is no representative for this country: within a country candidates have to agree with their colleagues
    3. Victoria Blanes Vidal is asked to represent Spain
  2. CIGR website
    1. Only official delegates are mentioned on the website;  
    2. Suggestions for improving the website are welcome
  3. Conferences
    1. CIGR Section II and the EurAgEng working group of Air Emission should better cooperate
    2. Greensys Working Group: Suggestion to cooperate with ISHS //// It was agreed on the suggestion of Daniel Berckmans that Prof. Giacomo Scarascia will take the lead in contacting ISHS; Daniel will ask Giacomo
    3. Animal Housing in Hot Climate
      • Panos Panagakis gave a presentation about the actual status of the “Glossary of Definitions” working group and past actions
      • A glossary of definitions on related terms has been worked out and will be finalised including the terms that are still missing
      • planned steps are to put the glossary on the website and on Wikipedia and to produce a leaflet
      • Funding has to be found for the leaflet
      • Critics were given to publish the glossary in Wikipedia, such as:
        • Notes in Wikipedia can be changed by everybody (Daniel Herd)
        • Does Wikipedia really make sense? (Victoria Blanes-Vidal)      
      • Jan Harms suggested to translate the glossary into different languages and to bring it down to national organisations (such as VDI?)
      • Agreement was on following decisions:
        • It was agreed to bring the glossary onto the website of CIGR
        • Daniel Berckmans and Panos Panagakis will propose at the meeting in Brazil to make leaflets to make the glossary well known
    4. Relation between PLF/Aquaculture and Section II (Question: Ilan Halachmi)
      • Section II provides information about what is going on in EU PLF
      • Application of PLF, e.g. Aquaculture as special sessions within PLF conferences
        • Ilan Halachmi will organise a session on “Aquaculture Engineering” with more or less around six speakers
    5. Upcoming conferences (supported by CIGR)
      • ILES 1-7 Sep 2008, Brazil
      • IV International Workshop on Assessment of Animal Welfare: September 10-13, Gent, Belgium
      • BTU, Animal Welfare Conference in South Africa (Reiner Brunsch)
      • 60th EAAP Annual Meeting: August 24-27, Barcelona, Spain
      • XIV ISAH Congress 2009: July 19-23 2009, Vechta, Germany
      • ICAR General Assembly and Management Workshop on: " Management of new recording and evaluation technologies", Porec, Croatia, 11-14 May 2009
  4. Measuring protocol for emission measurements
    1. Proposals for future actions:
      • A measuring protocol could be worked out by the existing network, such as the network for the “Hot climate glossary” (H. Takai)
      • It was agreed that a session on measuring techniques will be planned on this topic in connection with the CIGR conference in Quebec 2010:
        • H. Takai will take the lead in making the session
        • Homework should be done before
  5. Various topics
    1. Participants vs. official delegates
      • Suggestion to bring in name of participants into Section II website (Panos Panagakis) – is not possible
      • Daniel Berckmans will invite colleagues in Greece about a delegate of Greece
      • Participants are always invited in the Section II board meeting as special guests
    2. Name of Section II
      • Suggestion for a shorter name are welcome, such as:
        • “Structures and Environment” (Panos Panagakis)
        • Will be suggested in the board meeting in Brazil
    3. Next meeting of the CIGR Section II board:
      • EU PLF conference, Wageningen 2009
        • Will be suggested in the board meeting in Brazil
