International Conference on Trends in Industrial Measurements and Automation (TIMA)

International Workshop on
"Agricultural Based Development in Tidal Swamp and Estuaries and Environmental Consideration"
The Workshop, which will investigate into Integrated Development in Tidal Swamp and Estuaries for sustainable agricultural development and aquaculture, will be held in Seoul, South Korea, in September 2001, during the 52nd meeting of the International Executive Council (IEC) of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). It will be organised by: the ICID Working Group on "Environmental impacts of irrigation, drainage and flood control projects", the ICID Working Group on "Drainage" and the Korean National Committee of ICID-KNCID. The language will be English or French. Topics will include:
- Prospects and challenges of tidal swamp and estuarine development (physical, chemical and biotic characteristics, energy balance, water quality)
- Technological aspects of the development of tidal area and estuaries (lowland area development operation and maintenance, estuary systems, land reclamation, irrigation and drainage)
- Non-technical aspects of the development of tidal swamps and estuaries (environmental and socio-economic impacts, communal and institutional issues, cost/benefit analysis)

The Second World Engineering Congress 2002 Engineering Innovation and Sustainability: Global Challenges and Issues
The congress will be held from 22-25 July 2002 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It is organised by the Ministry of Finance, Public Utilities & Industrial Development, Sarawak, the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, Putra University Malaysia, the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries, and the Malaysian Council of Engineering Deans. There will be a special subconference on Biological, Agricultural and Food Engineering, which covers a range of up-to-date agricultural issues. Abstracts (about 300 words) should be submitted by no later than 30 March 2001 to the Chairman of the Technical Committee, A/Prof. Ir. Megat Johari Megat M. Noor (megatj@eng.upm.edu.my). Authors will be notified of acceptance by 30 May 2001.

18th ICID International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage: Food Production Under Conditions of Water Scarcity, Increasing Population and
Environmental Pressure
The conference will take place from 21-28 July 2002 in Montreal, Canada. The main issues will be:
- Food production, poverty alleviation and environmental challenges as influenced by limited water resources and population growth
- Integration and management of irrigation, drainage and flood control
