CIGR Section II Symposium on
"Gaseous and Odour Emissions from Animal Production Facilities"
Horsens, 1-4 June, 2003

This symposium, organised in co-operation with EurAgEng and NJF, will be held from 1 to 4 June, 2003, at Scandic Hotel Bygholm Park, Horsens, Denmark. It will focus on the environmental effect of animal production. One of the major concerns is the ammonia emission from animal husbandry, with respect to acidification and eutrophication of the environment. Moreover, the odour nuisance to local residents and the emission of greenhouse gases and dust are becoming increasingly important issues with respect to animal husbandry.

The following topics will be discussed at the symposium:

6th Inter-Regional Conference on Environment-Water: "Land and Water Use Planning and Management"

This Conference will be held in Albacete, Spain, from 3 to 5 September 2003. The Conference language will be English. It is organised by the Regional Centre for Water Study (CREA), University of Castilla-La Mancha and the Spanish Committee of Agricultural Engineering (CEIR), in co-operation with the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering (CIGR), the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng), the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology.

Fresh water and land are more and more scarce all over the world, both in quantity and quality, due to the increase in population and in the economic activity. Thus it is necessary to improve the planning and management in order to achieve a sustainable use of natural resources. This fact implies to know better the different processes involved, and design tools and models to help in decision making, by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other engineering technologies.

The conservation of the environment and the reduction of possible risks for health, caused by direct and diffused pollution due to the more intensive use of these resources, calls into question local and regional development plans and strategies.

The 6th Inter-Regional Conference "Envirowater 2003" attempts to be a meeting forum among scientists, engineers and/or managers of water, land and environment. The topics include all the strategies and technologies to improve the use and the sustainable management of resources in order to achieve an improvement in productivity and in sustainable rural development, but with no risks for health.

The main topics are:

The Conference will consist of three days of oral presentations, poster sessions, and a technical tour. Papers will be reviewed by an international scientific committee and, if accepted, published in the Conference Proceedings edited under the supervision of an international board of editors. The Conference fee will be 325 Euro. 20% reduction is foreseen for participants from East Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America countries.

International Conference of CIGR Section IV on "Technical Improvements in Energy Transformation in Agriculture in the
21st Century"
Alexandria, 14-17 September 2003

This conference will be held from 14 to 17 September, 2003, in Alexandria, Egypt. It is organised by the German Federal Agricultural Research Center (FAL-Braunschweig), by the Egyptian CIGR member society MSAE (Misr Society of Agricultural Engineering of Egypt), and by Alexandria University. The Conference will deal with "Technical Improvements in Energy Transformation in Agriculture in the 21st Century". This theme will be divided into two sub-topics:

  1. Technical improvements to decrease the use of fossil fuels and public grid electricity in plant and animal production systems. For example: engines with higher efficiency; control systems; energy management; weight reduction; lower energy input in irrigation systems; better heating systems in animal houses; etc.
  2. Technical improvements which can increase the use of renewable energy in husbandry. For example: biomass; animal power; solar electricity; solar heat; wind power; water power; fuel cells for biogas; stirling motor; energy storage in batteries, hydrogen, pump water, air pressure; etc.
Papers are invited on both sub-topics. Full papers are expected only in English, German or French. Papers in German or French must have an English summary, and every text and explanation in a drawing and figure must have an English translation.

Deadlines:

Written paper abstract (English) 1 March 2003

Confirmation of paper acceptance 15 March 2003

Final registration 1 June 2003

The conference will be held at the conference hall of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the successor to the ancient library of Alexandria. Accompanying persons can participate in an interesting program in Alexandria, located at the Mediterranean coast and founded by Alexander the Great. Registration fees range from US$ 70 for students to US $ 220 for the full duration of the conference and including technical tour, lunches, etc.

XXX CIOSTA-CIGR V Congress on "Management and Technology Applications to Empower Agriculture and Agro-Food Systems"
Turin, 22 -24 September 2003

This congress will be held in Turin, Italy, from 22-24 September 2003. CIOSTA (Commission Internazionale de l’Organisation Scientifique du Travail en Agriculture) and CIGR-Section V have organized several biannual International Congresses; the 2003 congress will be held at the School of Agriculture of the Turin University (Italy).

The main topics of the Congress will be related to the subjects mainly treated by the two Organizations: work science and management in agriculture, ergonomics and safety. In these sectors, due to the contribution of information and electronic technologies, new powerful tools are now available for crop production and post harvest processing as well as forest, environment and landscape management.

The plenary session will be held by international experts in the above-mentioned fields. The ten main topics of the Congress will concern:

The language of the symposium will be English through oral presentations and posters. A short abstract, of maximum 600 words, which should underline objectives and results must be submitted by e-mail before 30 November 2002.
