"AgEng 2004: Engineering the Future"
This conference will be held from 12-16 September 2004, at the city campus of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium (University of Leuven). The conference aims at engineering issues related to the future of agriculture, the environment, biological systems and related industries in order to serve society and all people. Engineering and technology will be dealt with not just as a driving force but also as a catalyst that enables change.
New technologies are required for agriculture to face future challenges. The future changes in food production and food supply must be carefully prepared to meet both the expectations of consumers and to lead to a profitable and sustainable agriculture. Increased pressure of consumers to produce safe food using production techniques that are acceptable for the environment will lead to the development of advanced engineering as part of a new agriculture. This includes also new technologies that are emerging for post-harvest treatments of food. All these technologies involve or incorporate engineering principles based on biological systems.
The conference will deal with the following topics:
- Engineering for natural resources and rural landscapes
- Primary production engineering for food and fibres
- Integrated management systems for animals
- Precision agriculture
- Sensors and sensing techniques for plants and animals
- Aquaculture
- Livestock technology
- Energy systems
- Human health safety and comfort
- Soil and water management
- Particular matter emissions
- Postharvest technology and process engineering
- Waste management
- Advanced engineering methods for biological systems
- Engineering a sustainable future
Contributions on engineering methods and results related to biological systems, agriculture, food and fibre production, and the environment are very much welcome. Abstracts, in English and not to exceed 400 words, will be judged by the Scientific Committee. Extended abstracts of accepted papers and posters, in the required format and max. 2 pages A4, have to reach the secretariat at the latest on 1 June 2004.
The collected extended abstracts will be available to attendees on arrival at the conference. Submission of conference papers to the Biosystems Engineering Journal (the scientific journal of EurAgEng) are encouraged.
Deadlines:
Abstracts 1 December 2003
Notification of Acceptance 1 March 2004
Extended Abstracts 1 June 2004
16 September will be reserved for technical tours. The post conference tour will start on 17 September.
