Multilingual Glossary on Witloof
Chicory is by tradition highly appreciated, not only for its eating qualities but also for its medicinal properties that have been attributed to the plant. A very special variety of chicory is the tasteful leafy vegetable 'Witloof'.
Witloof cultivation is nowadays being undertaken in an increasing number of countries all over the world. Witloof growing has its own terminology and a specific multilingual dictionary covering Dutch, French, English, German and Spanish has been published by Ir. J. Lips. For clarity this list is not limited to a simple summing up of notions, terms and synonyms, in total some 2700 words, but each of the terms and notions is also explained by definitions and descriptions. It is therefore rather a glossary than a dictionary. This book gives a good deal of information on witloof growing and contains also a numbered index for each of the five languages. This glossary will be a handy and practical instrument for growers, researchers, advisers, translators etc.
The book contains 221 main entries, 2700 words and synonyms and 336 pages. ISBN 9070-14250-3.
The book can be obtained after payment of 900 BEF on giro account N° 000-0265506-17 of Rijksstation voor Landbouwtechniek, Van Gansberghelaan 115, 9820 Merelbeke, Belgium. Fax.: +32 9 252 42 34.
