16th International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage Sustainability of Irrigated Agriculture

The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, ICID, organises its 16th International Congress in Cairo, Egypt on 1522 September 1996. This threeyearly congress is on the theme "Sustainability of irrigated agriculture". The topics will deal with: 'Farmers' participation towards sustainable irrigated agriculture' and 'Irrigation planning and management: Measures in harmony with the environment' .

A special session will concentrate on: 'The future of irrigation under increased demand from competitive uses of water and greater needs for food supply'. Furthermore the symposium will deal with 'Management information systems in irrigation and drainage'.

International Conference on Agricultural and Biological Engineering: New Horizons, New Challenges

This conference will be held at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K. from 20 to 23 September 1995.

This Conference is intended to provide a forum for discussion of the emerging discipline of biological engineering and its relationship to agricultural engineering. The Conference will comprise six formal sessions, a poster session and a workshop session over three days. Each of the formal sessions will include a keynote address and five stateoftheart

contributions followed by discussion. The various sessions are:

* Environmental Management and Amenity Engineering;
* Biosystems and Ecological Engineering;
* Bioinstrumentation and Environmental Measurement;
* Biomaterials and Bioprocess Engineering;
* Trends in Agrotechnology;
* Education and Training for Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

Language at the conference will be English.

Proceedings: Keynote papers and abstracts of oral and poster presentations will be provided at the Conference. Keynote, selected papers and synopses will be distributed in book form after the Conference.

Offers of contributions to the poster and workshop sessions are invited. Abstracts of not more than 300 words should be submitted not later than 30 April 1995.

The delegate registration fee amounts to £ 175 and covers attendance, official receptions, lunches, refreshments and proceedings.

2nd International Symposium on Sensors in Horticulture

Following the success of the Workshop on Sensors in Horticulture organized by TMAG and ISHS in The Netherlands in 1991 ISHS and EurAgEng invite you tp participate in the 2nd International Symposium on Sensors in Horticulture.

This Symposium will be held near Copenhagen, Denmark from 22 August to 26 August 1995.

Topics will include :
* Climatic sensors
* Chemical sensors
* Plant related sensors ('Speaking plant concept')
* Sensors for mechanical equipment ( 'Mechatronics' ).

Oral and poster presentations are welcome. All contributions will be refereed by the International Programme Committee and printed in the proceedings. Camera ready manuscripts should be send to the secretariat two weeks before the symposium.

A package arrangement covering participation, accommodation, meals and technical tours will be offered.

9th International Congress on Soilless Culture

The Ninth International Congress on Soilless Culture will be held in St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands, from 12 to 19 April 1996.

The Congress will be based on lectures given by many of the world' s top researchers in soilless culture. There will be a session on waste water treatment and reuse.

Lectures and posters on all aspects of soilless culture e.g. techniques, substrates, recirculation, rockwool, composition and maintenance of nutrient solutions, slow release fertilizers, ion exchange resins, plant pathology and its control, etc.

IInd International Congress on Animal Traction

The Cuban Institute on Agricultural Mechanization (IIMA) organizes the 2nd International Congress on Animal Traction in Havana on 1924 February 1996. This congress is under the auspices of the Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (CEMA) and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (ISCAH) of Havana, the University of Chapingo and AGRIECOLOGICA of Mexico, the FAO and FOMENTA of Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador.

Economic, ecological and technological issues on animal traction will be discussed together with the selection, feeding and care of the animals.
