AGS Bulletin N° 110 Testing and Evaluation of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Principles and practices.
This bulletin provides principles, practices and procedures for testing machines and also determines aspects of a machine, s performance that can be evaluated. It is directed towards those involved in the evaluation of machinery, and primarily towards users on small farms. Evaluation of farm equipment may be appropriate at any stage in its development, from first prototype to batch and series production. Consequently, the users of the bulletin will be machinery designers and developers, test engineers producing technical information for comparative decision-making and university-level training staff and students. (1994, 281 pp., 29 USD)
AGS Bulletin N° 115 Selection, Testing and Evaluation of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Theory
The selection of farm machinery and equipment is an activity undertaken by the user by applying the information obtained from a range of sources, including reports on machinery tests where available. This document is, therefore primarily concerned with machinery testing and evaluation from the user's viewpoint, although attention is also paid to testing for manufacturers. Machinery testing as commonly practised has been essentially a supply-side activity responding to the needs of machinery manufacturers and dealers. A different approach is necessary for consumer-responsible testing one that can be undertaken mainly in farmers, fields without the need for elaborate instrumentation. However, machinery-testing is only one facet of the information required by the individual farmers in order to make a full evaluation of a machine's suitability for sustainable and profitable use in his or her unique circumstances. Machinery selection and evaluation requires a more systematic and user-responsive approach than has been practised in the past. It is suggested that the task of making the necessary information and advice available to farmers should be the responsibility of a mechanization information and advice service which would be empowered to co-ordinate the work of relevant institutions. Where possible this service would work in close co-operation with institutions that have already been successful in helping farmers solve their agricultural mechanization problems. Price 10 USD
AGS Bulletin N° 109 Grain Storage Techniques Evolution and trends in developing countries.
This bulletin deals with the main aspects of preservation of grains after harvest in tropical and subtropical regions. it
presents the entire range of technologies currently available, from the farm granary to large-scale storage facilities. Special emphasis has been placed on quality control as it is becoming more and more important in view of the marketable surplus. The bulletin is aimed at private and public sector storage operators, extension workers, students and researchers. ( l 994, 292 pp., 29 USD).
AGS Bulletin N° 112/1 Pesticide Application Equipment for Use in Agriculture Vol. 1 Manually carried equipment.
This bulletin describes the main types of manually operated or manually carried pesticide application equipment. It gives details of design and shows the types of nozzle needed to treat crops and to improve the safety and efficiency of the spraying operation. Besides the popular lever-operated knapsack sprayers and compression sprayers, motorized knapsack sprayers, spinning disc applicators for reduced volume and special equipment such as fog, granule and dust applicators are included. Specifications for spraying equipment are provided as well as guidance on safety and maintenance. The bulletin is directed towards agricultural engineers, technicians, training establishments and other interested in the subject. It provides practical guidance for those involved in pesticide application. ( l7 USD).
AGS Bulletin N° 112/2 Pesticide Application Equipment for Use in Agriculture Vol. 2 Mechanically powered equipment.
This bulletin describes the main types of mechanically powered pesticide application equipment. It gives design details and shows the types of nozzle needed to treat crops and to improve the safety and efficiency of the spraying operation. Subjects include tractor-mounted and trailed boom sprayers, equipment for treatment of bush and tree crops, granule application and seed treatment, aerosol and fog application and aerial spraying. Specifications for
spraying equipment are provided as well as guidance on safety and maintenance. Advice is given on the right choice of equipment. The bulletin is directed towards agricultural engineers, technicians, training establishments and others interested in the subject. It provides practical guidance to those involved in pesticide application. (14 USD).
