International Seminar NFJ Technia'97: Technology of Cost-Efficient Agricultural Production
This event will be held in Pärnu, Estonia on 22-26 October 1997 and is organised by Section VII 'Agricultural Engineering' of the Nordic Association of Agricultural Scientists (NJF) in co-operation with Estonian partners.
The Opening Session will be devoted to 'Technological co-operation between Baltic and Nordic countries in food production' and will be followed by three parallel sessions :
- Cost-efficient agricultural buildings;
- New crops and methods in field production;
- Production systems in agriculture.
Professional excursions both on arrival and on a specific excursion day are foreseen.
The target group is: scientists, advisors and teachers in agricultural engineering and mechanisation in Nordic, Baltic and other European countries.
Language: English.
Papers: the deadline for submission of summaries of papers and posters is April 30, 1997. All accepted presentations and posters will be published in a seminar folder. A summary of presentations will appear in the journal: 'Nordisk Jordbruksforskning'.
Participation fees (seminar, bus transport from Tallinn-Pärnu-Tallinn, seminar dinner, excl. meals and accommodation): Members of NJF: DKK 1750 - Non-members: DKK 2200.
Seminar place is : Strand Hotel, Pärnu. Synchronised transport from Tallinn will be organised.

International Conference on Automation of Agricultural Production
This conference will be held near Moscow (tw. Uglich, 160 km North of Moscow) on 13-16 May 1997.
The following themes will be dealt with:
- Identification and models of complexes and operating systems;
- Optimisation methods of operating systems;
- Information and technical data of man-machine systems;
- Methods of technical and economic evaluation of automatic systems;
- Automation systems reliability;
- Automatic systems of control and operation in farmers technologies of agriculture, livestock breeding and poultry;
- Automation and technical service facilities and repair process of agricultural techniques;
- Automation of farmers' complexes and households;
- Specialised means of automation and devices;
- Robot technical installations and systems.
Proceedings will be published. Papers in English, max. 3 pages, should be submitted in twofold before 1 February 1997.
Registration amounts to 200 USD, payable upon arrival.

First European Conference for Information Technology in Agriculture
This event will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University on 15-18 June 1997. Themes that will be treated are:

XIVth ISTRO Conference - Agro-ecological and Economic Aspects of Soil Tillage
The XIVth ISTRO Conference will be held in Pulawy, Poland on 27 July - 1 August 1997.
Six major topics will be emphasised:

International Conference on Agriculture, Fisheries and Agro-Industry in the Mediterranean Region with special reference to Islands
This conference will be held in Valletta, Malta on 20-22 March 1997.
The overall aim of the conference is to analyse and discuss the performance and the sustainability of agriculture, fishing and related industries in the Mediterranean region with special reference to islands.
Topics will include:
- role of agriculture in the Mediterranean region and its contribution to the economy,
- wild fisheries and aquaculture,
- sustainable agriculture: the interaction between the agricultural sector and the physical environment,
- water resources and water management,
- the economics of irrigation,
- agro-industrial SME's in the Mediterranean,
- quality and safety of agri-food products and nutrition issues,
- the Mediterranean diet: research and promotion,
- soils in the Mediterranean region.

11th World Fertiliser Congress of CIEC: Fertilisation for Sustainable Plant Production and Soil Fertility
This World Congress will be held at the University of Gent, Faculty of Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences, Gent, Belgium on 7-13 September 1997.
There will be six sections viz.
1. Nutrient output by food and non-food plant products;
2. Nutrient losses to water;
3. Nutrients to and from the atmosphere;

XXVth International Horticultural Congress Science and Horticulture: interfaces and interactions.
The XXVth International Horticultural Congress from ISHS, will be held in Brussels on 2-7 August 1998.
Pre- and post-congress tours are planned in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Main themes are:
- Culture techniques;
- Quality of horticultural products;
- Computers and automation;
- Biotechnology.
A large variety of other themes will also be treated.

7th International Congress of Plant Pathology
This Congress will be held in Edinburgh, Scotland on 9 - 16 August 1998.
