Proceedings 7th Meeting of the Club of Bologna

The Proceedings give an account of the 7th Meeting of the Full Members of the Club of Bologna, held in Bologna on 11-13 November 1996 under the auspices of CIGR.

Proceedings Agricultural Engineering Conference 1996

The Proceedings of the International Agricultural Engineering Conference held at Pune, in December 1996 are available for sale at the cost of 150 USD (incl. P. & P.). 2nd International Workshop on Renewable Energy Application to Plantation and Other Industries

The report on the 2nd International Workshop on Renewable Energy Application to Plantation and Other Industries has recently been published. This event was organised by PEN, Planters Energy Network, Madurai, MKU, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and IIT, Indian Institute of Technology Madras and was held in IIT Madras on 9-11 April 1997.

Farmers’ Tools

Farmers’ tools, a description of agricultural tools used by farmers in the East and Southern African Region (March 1997) is edited by Ola Moeller and published by FARMESA,’Farm-level Applied Research Methods in East and Southern Africa’. This is an organisation funded by the Swedish International Development Authority with the collaboration of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations FAO, which acts as the executing agency.

The introduction is by Dr. Bo Gohl, Co-ordinator of the project. The book contains 115 pp. and is richly illustrated.

This book, Farmers’ tools, has been written to share information about the large range of tools which are currently being used by small-scale farmers throughout the east and southern African region. The book describes nearly 50 different types of tools The information is intended to benefit farmers and families : by knowing about a wider range of tools and technologies, their ability to thrive in the harsh environments in which they live is strengthened.

All of the illustrations which are featured in the book have also been produced individually and sealed in plastic and are available for a small fee from the publishers. This is of interest for use at meetings, discussions etc;

It is hoped that this book will bring about a closer cooperation between the local farmers, their families, artisans such as carpenters and blacksmiths, community workers, extension officers, etc.

The topics covered are: Land Preparation, Primary Tillage, Secondary Tillage, Planting, Basal Fertiliser Application, Weeding, Plant Protection, Side/Top Dressing Fertiliser, Harvesting, Transport.

Proceedings XXVII CIOSTA-CIGR V Congress

The proceedings of the latest CIOSTA-CIGR V Congress which was held in Kaposvar, Hungary on 25-27 August 1997 are now available. The themes of the congress were: Labour and Working Conditions, Integrated Quality Management; Work Organisation and farm Planning.
